It’s been a while since I’ve shared a new drink recipe, and ya’ll are gonna love this Orange Margarita. It’s a strong, restaurant-quality margarita, made with orange juice, tequila, triple sec, lime juice and simple syrup. Quick and easy to make; great for parties!
Have you ever had an Orange Margarita?
We like to make Margarita’s of every flavor around here. And by “we,” I really mean my husband. He’s my local bartender. π
He’s got his own favorite base Margarita recipe that he tweaks around for different flavors (whether they are on the rocks or frozen).
And this is where I’ll warn you: his Margarita’s are strong.
I call them restaurant quality, because our favorite Mexican restaurants always have a nice big Margarita to go along with their chips and salsa.
Almost everytime we have friends over, he’s making Margarita’s.
What can I say… Margarita’s are our love language. π
This Orange Margarita is a fun, simple recipe that’s a little bit like his famous Blue Margarita. But this time, you don’t have to worry about having blue curacao. And he added in some orange juice for an extra punch of orange flavor.
It’s fruity, easy to make, strong, full of flavor, and goes perfectly alongside chips and tacos. What more could you want?!
MARGARITA INGREDIENTS
First, I’d recommend that you use high quality orange juice.
We’ve used Kroger brand and it just wasn’t quite the same as using a name brand that’s a little higher quality. Fresh squeezed would be best, but it’s a little more work (and I like the shortcut of a bottle of OJ myself).
It’s the same idea for the lime juice.
You can either freshly squeeze some limes yourself, or use this bottled lime juice. Ensure that the lime juice that you buy is 100% lime (usually it’s in a glass bottle). The lime shaped or plastic bottles are typically NOT 100% lime juice, and the flavor is too bitter.
Use your favorite tequila in this recipe as well.
My husband recommends buying 100% Agave Tequila, like Espolon Tequila Blanco.
Tequila is made from the blue agave plant. One of it’s requirements is that tequila must be made from at least 51% of the blue agave plant to be labeled Tequila. However, tequilas with less percentages of agave may contain more additives of other types of sugar in place of that agave. Just something to note, in case you’d like to be a tequila aficionado like my husband. π
You’ll also need to use Triple Sec. We buy a huge, cheap bottle at our local liquor store and it lasts use quite a while.
Last but not least, simple syrup.
We have an old glass liquor bottle that we store our own homemade simple syrup in. Buying simple sryup is expensive, which is crazy because it’s literally just water and sugar.
On the stove or in the microwave (in a microwave-safe container), you can heat up equal parts of water and sugar and whisk them together till the sugar has dissolved. Ta-da; simple syrup! It’s that simple. π
Sweet, strong, simple, citrus-loaded… this Orange Margarita recipe is the perfect addition to your next little party or Taco Tuesday.
After you make it, let me know what you think! I have fun taking a break from baking in the Summer to share cool drinks like these. I hope ya’ll like them as much as we do.
