You know those weeks where you feel like you might as well be a walking zombie? Well, I’m feeling that way right about now guys. Hubby is sick, baby girl is getting her 5th tooth, and there’s all sorts of crazy going on in my extended family.
But GOOD NEWS: My sister had her baby!!! She is doing great and her son is healthy too. He has a head full of hair and the cutest little nose. My son’s reaction to meeting him was PRICELESS, “I’m gonna love him SO much! TEN MILLION PIZZA’s!” (in our house we measure love in pizza’s!).
This week I was already planning on cheers-ing a margarita to my husband for Father’s Day, but now some CHEERS go out to my sister and her husband too. That means I get to drink two blue margarita’s right?? 😉
And, hey sis, maybe I’ll make you your first celebratory drink with this blue margarita!
This drink takes me back to my honeymoon in Mexico. My husband first came across the infamous blue margarita there. He saw someone with it, and pretty quickly asked the bartender, UH WHAT IS THAT?? And can I have one?? And he was instantly hooked FOR LIFE.
You see, my husband is a craving-based eater. He will eat pretty much anything, don’t get me wrong, but he’s very particular about “what sounds good” each day. I think a Blue Margarita, similar to our Creamy Habanero Sauce, is one of the few things that will ALWAYS sound good to him.
So, in honor of Father’s Day, I wanted to make something to celebrate him, that he would love.
Which really means I said, “hey hon, could you make this Blue Margarita for my food blog this week…? You’ll get to drink it afterwards!” He couldn’t turn that one down. And THAT sums up our relationship and exactly why I celebrate him on Father’s Day. My bearded mountain man is my partner in crime, always has my back.. he’s my rock steady. I MIGHT be the local crazy lady if it weren’t for him.
So what makes this Blue Margarita so addicting and special??
The Blue Curacao. It adds a bit of an orange flavor to the drink, which, if you are an orange lover and margarita fan then HELLO THIS DRINK IS FOR YOU!
This Blue Margarita is an easy drink to make, and a fun way to switch up your typical margarita recipe, but still keep it really simple. You simply mix everything in a cocktail shaker, and pour it over ice. You could salt your rim too if you want to be extra fancy, or just love salt with your margarita like I do. I prefer a margarita on the rocks with a salted rim. It’s just SO right.
So here’s to you hubby, may your margarita always be blue and your rim always salted! CHEERS!
Do you have someone in your life you’d like to CHEER to? Make a Blue Margarita and we can cheer together! 😉

Looking forward to trying a new spin in this margarita
Talia says
I prefer ounces because shot glasses can vary in size- can you clarify as to how many oz per shot? Would that be 1.5 oz=one shot or 1 oz=1 shot? Thanks!
Chelsea Green says
HI Talia. A standard shot is 1.5 oz. Hope this helps, and cheers!

How would a lime rimmed glass dipped in raw (brown) sugar??
Chelsea Green says
Hi Karen. I would guess that brown sugar may not work as well, because it’s more moist than white sugar so I’m afraid it wouldn’t stick as well. But, feel free to give it a shot, and I hope it works for you!
Michele says
As a Texan I pretty picky about my margaritas. Gotta say: DELICIOUS!
Chelsea Green says
LOVE hearing that Michele! I lived in Texas for several years growing up, and even though I couldn’t drink margaritas at the time I know I’m very picky about my Mexican food and margaritas now!

Really good recipe but very sweet. I’m going to try two shots of simples syrup next time.
Debby Biess says
Chelsea,
What is your recipe for the simple syrup in these Blue Margaritas? Can’t wait to make these!
Thank!
Chelsea Green says
Hi Debby – Awesome! For our Simple Syrup we use a 1:1 ratio of water and sugar. In a microwaveable bowl, get a cup of water hot. Add your sugar to the hot water. Then microwave your sugar/water till the sugar dissolves entirely. Let it cool, and you should have simple syrup! You can also buy Simple Syrup, which should be right by pre-made margarita mixes in a store. Hope this helps!
Kristin says
Can you make a skinny version of this with something other than simple syrup?
Chelsea Green says
Hi Kristin. I’ve tried a “skinny” margarita before with agave, but honestly the less sugar that’s in a margarita the more acidic and tart it is and less smooth (just to warn you).
Lynn6039 says
you can use a sugar substitute. I use Splenda for my simple syrup.

Just have to say that I think it’s awesome that your family measures love in pizzas! Haha!

Thanks Raia! It’s one of our cute things 🙂
